First of all I wish you all a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR and every body is warmly welcome on-board here at Symbian Stories.com.2008 is just made history,and if you are a S60 user the last two years would be the years for you to celebrate.It may be the release of the S60 3rd edition that set the fire but it's true colours weren't visible till the smoke went up,that would be the announcement of the N95 in September 2006.
The release of S60 3rd edition is a landmark of the Symbian Timeline and it's the platform that Nokia phones started to challenge the Personal computers.3250, the very first 3rd edition device presented on this new version of s60 wasn't showing any signs of the innovations to be presented in the line,but it was a record breaking success when it comes to the sales.Then came the true face of this new platform in the form of two branches,Nokia branded their S60 device line-up in to 2 main families the N-series and the E-series.This is where the s60 3rd edition got most of the attention towards it,the invasion into the realm of PC was lead in 2 divisions,Multimedia and the Business were the two main battle fronts.

I started using the N80 at the very beginning of this move and their gradual improvement towards the release of the N95 was truly a period of Story Telling that I enjoyed while waiting.The top most success of their advancing came in the form of a new device that created a ton of buzz.The new Dual Slider Form Factor introduced with the N95(Later discovered as the most effective form factor they've ever invented)was a real boost for its popularity.So after the N95 was officially released in March 2007 ,a new era was began,the way we looked at mobiles was changed,it's no longer a small piece of gadget but a tech-crammed power house.

So lets have a retrospect over the period of this fast-paced evolution.The N95 brought new aspects onto the phones, making them much closer to Personal Computers and a little bit more.that was 2 years ago and now with the N97 announced which is on par with the PC, like never before Mobile computing is just a matter of touch.



During the time 2007-2008,


* GPS was introduced to Nokia Devices-Now the Navigation is made easier and Pocketable.

* 5MP camera with Autofocus-The usual digicam is replaced.

* Accelerometer-Now your moves do make sense,it's nor ordinary device anymore.

* The RAM used in Mobile devices were Increased making the Multitasking a realistic challenge.

* Pop port was replaced by Mini-USB and connecting your device to a PC is no longer a trouble maker.

* 3.5mm Audio Jack is introduced-Making the music experience on S60 into standars.

* 3D Graphics HW Accelerator is introduced-Gaming is mobile again.

* Large screens started to dominate the smartphones with E61,N95 and E90.

* Mobile DVBH TV was introduced onto the S60 devices.

* Geo-Tagging was introduced-first step towards the location Based social media sharing.

* Nokias Previously branded Communicator series was merged into the E-series-the E90 was born.And the N-gage device trend is shifted onto N-series with the N-gage software gaming platform.

* Inbuilt Memory is largely expanded as internal Hard drives or support for high capacity memory cards.

* Xenon Flash was introduced-On the N82 and never showed up on any other device,instead a Dual-LED flashing system was introduced facilitating the low light condition video recording.

* Micro USB port was introduced,and the Charging via USB is available only on the N85.

* Navi-Wheel was introduced-making the navigation swift and smooth.

* FM-Transmitter came onto S60-Broadcast your tunes,sharing is made more and more public.

* OLED was introduced.

* New types of Key pads and d-pads were tested-N78 and the N81 marked the start.

* Finally Touch hit the S60-opening wider and broader paths to the future.

* For the first time an N-series QWERTY device was announced-this was full of surprises and it turned out to be the ultimate flagship,the N97.



Apart from whats listed above,so many new software solutions,applications,services and new materials were used to improve the Quality of the devices.Many concepts were brought into reality,many thoughts were molded into physical mechanisms and a rich variety of design concepts made the E and N series the two most platforms where Nokia tried out most of their Form Factors and we should not forget that all this sudden boost was unleashed just in two years of time.

Not all the features mentioned in this timeline made their way to the 2009 along with the consecutive devices,some were tested but never graduated,but not all of them were buggy enough to be removed,so still there are possibilities,the only thing that is needed is perfect combination to fit into the device specific budget and space.
This is just a brief listing of the Nokias timeline during past two years,where at the end it reached the Pinnacles of its Evolution.The two years that Nokia and S60 took their customers by surprise.So for the 2009 what is waiting out their to be discovered?
